Top 10 Careers In 2013

A few months back Yahoo released their list of top jobs for 2013 and unsurprisingly, technology jobs are leading the way.

Ever since the bursting of the tech bubble back in 2001, the technology sphere has made steady progress to regain it's foothold on the job market and now appears to be one of the most promising careers for the future. These jobs have done especially well now that the economy is moving out of the recession that has loomed over the country after the housing crisis of 2007-08.

"Technology and engineering roles make up the majority of the top ten positions, indicative of the continued and heightened investments companies are making in these areas," says Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder.com. "You also see growth in production-related jobs as U.S. manufacturing rallies after experiencing significant losses during the recession. There is also strong demand for sales and marketing roles as companies look to grow revenue and extend their visibility and reach. Finally, there are more jobs supporting overall business operations as the economy improves."

With the rise to power of such heavyweights as Facebook and Twitter, not to mention the juggernaut that is Silicon Valley software development, the market seems eager to keep its money in all things technology.

"Companies are competing to get to market first with innovations that will create new revenue streams," Ferguson notes, "They want to capitalize on mobile technologies and social media.  They want to extract, parse and apply Big Data to bring better solutions to their clients and their own businesses. They need technologists in place who can devise bigger and better strategies, and execute."

To this end, market research analysis and sales have also flourished, often times working in conjunction with developers to bring the consumer what they want. By helping the technology department devise plans to understand and capitalize on market positions, these occupations should see steady growth as long as the economy continues to rebound.
