Travis Barker is firm with his belief that the reason for Tom Delonge's departure from Blink 182 is because the rest of the band did not want to compromise for his desire to sound like U2 and Coldplay, TV3.ie reported.
The 40-year-old drummer insisted that Delonge was being "extremely difficult" and wanted to shift the band into a brand new direction by attempting to sound like U2 or Coldplay. Unfortunately, along with Barker, their other band mate Mark Hoppus was not keen to the change that Delonge wants to happen.
''Mark and I never wanted to change. The last couple of albums, Tom wanted to sound like U2, to record songs that basically sound like Coldplay. For us, we were always like, 'Blink is Blink, man. We want to sound like f***ing Blink-182'... That's what side-projects are for. I love Blink for what it is. We love Blink and we love the sound of Blink," Barker stated.
He also hinted that the reason why Delonge left the band in 2015 was because he failed to compromise. Barker spoke to the YouTube vlogger Mr. Wavvy about the band's comeback, with their new vocalist; Matt Skiba. ''You got two of the three members and one has basically just tapped out and is being extremely difficult and won't compromise," he said.
''I think summertime. There's tentatively some plans to play shows during summer. Everything will come together and be revealed in due time. It's gonna be great," Barker said when asked about the drop date of his promised follow up to 2011's "Neighborhoods" LP for the summer.
Meanwhile, Barker has confirmed that a new Blink 182 is finished, BBC reported. Although no release date has yet been set, the recording process is completely done. "It's just a matter of picking what 12 to 14 songs are gonna be on the album. I think we wrote 26 or 27 - so right now everyone's just pushing for their favorites," he said.
