Rapper Lil Wayne, 30, has suffered a seizure today and is currently recovering at Cedars-Sinai Hospital tonight.
Reports are still coming in regarding the circumstances surrounding the popular rapper's sudden seizure, but it appears that he is doing fine tonight. He has already taken to Twitter to allay any fears among his fans.
"I'm good everybody," reads one message on Lil Wayne's Twitter account. "Thnx for the prayers and love."
Originally rumors had circulated that Lil Wayne was in a coma or perhaps had something even worse happen to him, but his fellow labelmate Mack Maine immediately worked to dispel any misconceptions:
"Dont believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe ... that's false!!"
Though Wayne and his fellow rappers did not directly address the nature of his stay in the hospital, the publicist for his record label, Young Money, has confirmed that he was admitted after suffering from a seizure.
Though at this point it is just speculation, it is possible that Lil Wayne's condition could be a direct result of the rabid drug use that he has promoted both in his songs and actions. It is well known that one of his favorite drugs is cough syrup and its variant codeine.
There has been mounting evidence that cough syrup and specifically its active ingredient dextromethorphan could actually increase the risk of seizures, specifically for those who are already predisposed.
On December 4, 2007 fellow rapper Pimp C died from deteriorating health attributed to heavy use of cough syrup and codeine. Pimp C was one of the original rappers to glorify the drug, and was a self-admitted influence for Dwayne 'Lil Wayne' Carter.
Though it's still too early to say, it's possible that Lil Wayne's lifestyle of drugs and partying may be catching up with him. Time will tell if this is a sign of worse things to come, but suffering such health deteriorations at this young of an age is never a good sign.
