Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has reportedly sent an urgent e-mail to all employees of the company today, requesting that they try to get Tesla fans to rally at Texas's capitol building tomorrow as the Texas Auto Dealer Association (TADA) lobbies for laws that would banish Tesla from the state.
Because Tesla Motors routes all of its business through its offices in California, TADA is feeling left out of the party, and is now trying to ban Tesla Motors and other companies like it from operating in Txas. Musk will give a press conference tonight, presumably to discuss this topic.
"It is crazy that Texas, which prides itself on individual freedom, has the most restrictive laws in the country protecting the big auto dealer groups from competition. If the people of Texas knew how bad this was, they would be up in arms, because they are getting ripped off by the auto dealers as a result," said Musk in his e-mail.
Musk is not afraid of innovation and does not back down from a fight. He has already faced similar situations in Minnesota and Massachusetts, having come out on top both times. Musk's SpaceX program has also revolutionized the way people are viewing space travel, making room for a privatized market where before only governments were involved.
Tesla Motors has already made huge waves with its trendy and environmentally-friendly line of automobiles. Though initially derided as unprofitable by people such as Mitt Romney, among others, Tesla has already announced that it expects to be "fully profitable" for the first time this quarter. Will it be able to sustain this pace? As John Rosevear of The Motley Fool writes:
"Near-faultless execution has led Tesla Motors to the brink of success, but the road ahead remains a hard one. Despite progress, a looming question remains: Will Tesla be able to fend off its big-name competitors?"
Musk certainly seems to think so, and is about to go toe-to-toe with Texan big business just to prove it.
