For some, the life and career of a DJ could be called the high life. However, this Swedish DJ is hanging up his headphones at the fresh young age of 26 years old.
"2016 run will be my last tour and last shows," Avicii announced, as told by Mirror. Diving deeper into his reasons for leaving, the DJ explained that his choices and career were never driven by material posessions. He is estimated to have a net worth of £50 million. That amount can make any man retire and live comfortably.
Now, after traveling around the world and performing in various venues, he plans to leave the life and career of luxury behind. "I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist," Avicii explains.
Avicii's retirement was made after an open letter was posted on his official website. The Swedish superstar DJ and producer had written a heartfelt letter detailing why he's stepping away. According to the Rolling Stone, he may be returning: "I could be back... But I won't be right back."
Here's an excerpt from his open letter:
Thank you for letting me fulfill so many of my dreams. I will be forever grateful to have experienced and accomplished all that I have...
P.S. I've got a new phone so you can text me re all this +46769436383. Please bare with me I might not be super quick to reply. X"
Avicii - whose real name is Tim Bergling - has had massive hits and remixes scored including "Levels" and "Wake Me Up."
He won't retire just yet. Fans will still be able to see him perform at his upcoming UK shows, including his headline slot at Electric Daisy Carnival in July, and what is currently scheduled to be his last gig, Boucher Playing Fields in August.
