The transition from being a night owl to a morning person is, quite simply, a very difficult task. You would not be here reading this if it was easy. The fact is some people are hardwired to be more active in the evening. But this does not mean that becoming the morning person you need to be is impossible. Here are 9 quick tips to wake up early for work.
1. Imagine an Ideal Morning
Morning people get to use their time very wisely. In your case, what would an ideal morning consist of? Exercise or yoga? Having a morning coffee while reading a couple of pages of a book? Also imagine the atmosphere. Being able to "see" what you want your mornings to be is a step in laying the groundwork for this eventual reality.
2. Focus on One Alarm at a Time
If you do not give yourself enough time to adjust, you will never wake up at your desired time. Try simple things like adjusting your alarm 5-15 minutes earlier. Once comfortable, repeat the process until it becomes a habit.
3. Don't Push Yourself
The more you stress out on not waking up early, the less effective your efforts will be. Just chill and allow yourself to get used to the new time.
4. Be Realistic
Set a realistic alarm that you and your schedule can work with. Setting an alarm earlier and earlier might deprive you of sleep-and that is never good if you want to be productive during the day.
5. Stop Making Excuses
Anything and everything can be a reason to sleep in if you allow yourself to believe it. However, when you wake up late and become stressed, you will know that "just 5 more minutes" was indeed a bad idea. Also, guide yourself to make waking up easier and actually preferred. Readying your breakfast before sleeping helps a lot.
6. Keep Track of Your Progress
No, this does not mean keeping a diary. Simply know by instinct and habit what you get to accomplish when you wake up early. Know what you can do within 30 minutes. Being a morning person allows a lot of work to be done even before many of your peers have just started on theirs. This provides a lot of peace of mind, less chances to be distracted and get interrupted.
7. Don't Break the Chain
Imagine one productive day as a link in a chain. The next day is another link. Make the mental decision not to break this chain and you will yourself motivated to do what you need to do-as a morning person, of course.
