"Dota 2" Manila Major has begun. The tournament kicked off on Tuesday, Jun. 7, and will end on Sunday, Jun. 12. The event is held at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Manila, Philippines.
"Dota 2" Manila Major, also known as the Spring Major, is organized by Valve. This is the third tournament in its "Dota" Championship series and is the first Valve-sanctioned event in Manila.
Rappler reported that, as early as 8 a.m., gamers, cosplayers and fans from all over the country gathered at the MOA Arena to watch the competition. The tournament opened with matches between Team Liquid and MVP Phoenix, Na'Vi and OG, Wings Gaming and compLexity, Alliance and Mineski, Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming Reborn, as well as Team Empire and Team Secret.
Other teams in the "Dota 2" Manila Major are Fnatic, LGD Gaming, Digital Chaos and Newbee. They will all be competing for the $3 million prize pool.
"Dota 2" Manila Major Day 1 results were in favor of MVP Phoenix (against Team Liquid), OG (against Na'Vi), Complexity (against Wings Gaming), Alliance (against Mineski), Vici Gaming Reborn (against Evil Geniuses) and Team Empire (against Team Secret).
Day 2 matches will be with Newbee vs. Digital Chaos, LGD Gaming vs. Fnatic, Complexity vs. Team Liquid and Na'Vi vs. Alliance.
Meanwhile, the "Dota 2" Manila Major is the last Majors tournament before The International 2016 on Aug. 8 to Aug. 13. According to The Bitbag, the winner of the Manila Major will take home 37 percent of the $3 million prize pool.
The Score noted that The International 2016 prize pool has already reached $10 million. This comes from a base total of $1,600,000 after merely 18 days of crowdfunding.
This is the fastest growth of the TI prize pool ever. Last year, it took 31 days to raise more than $10 million. The prize pool gained a significant amount after another Collector's Cache was added to the Battle Pass recently.
