NBA Opening night saw two favorite teams to win this year's NBA Championship take different routes. The Cleveland Cavaliers won over the New York Knicks in emphatic fashion. While the Golden State Warriors takes a beating at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs.
The big three of the Cavs had a championship caliber night. Lebron James registered a triple-double scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 14 assists. While Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love scored 29 points and 23 points respectively en route to a 117-88 beating of the Knicks.
Cleveland was amped up from start to finish by their raucous home crowd who witnessed their team raise their first ever championship banner and ring ceremony. "It was great to have a moment like that," James said about the ceremony. "It was difficult to focus on the game but we did a great job, especially in the second half."
"There were so many emotions," he continued. "To see us win the finals and tonight being that last exclamation point to receive your ring in front of your fans was a great moment."
On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors had a rude awakening at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs as they were dominated in front of their home crowd by a margin of 29 points. The final score was 129-100.
Surprisingly, it was newcomer Kevin Durant who looked liked the most comfortable player on the Warrior's roster tonight. He scored 27 points and 10 rebounds. While last season's MVP had a quiet 26 points and shooting poorly from 3-point range. The Warriors as a team could not stop Kawhi Leonard from attacking the rim. He scored a career-high 35 points while LaMarcus Aldridge punished them from the paint with 26 points and 14 rebounds.
The Cavaliers will face the Toronto Raptors on October 28 while the Golden State Warriors look to rebound against the Pelicans on the same date.
