BlackBerry's New Android Phone DTEK60 With Smart Security Solution: Latest News, Specifications, And Features

BlackBerry Limited has launched its latest Android device, the DTEK60. A phone that's equipped with the company's trusted security software that it is known for.

According to a press release, the DTEK60 provides full access to Android and higher-end specs to help power productivity. It also comes with BlackBerry's best-in-class security patching and the DTEK by BlackBerry app, which allows users to control the smartphone's privacy.

"With the DTEK60, BlackBerry continues to focus on our strengths: state-of-the-art software and security solutions," Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Mobility Solutions at BlackBerry Ralph Pini said. "When you see our logo it means security, from our class-leading enterprise software to devices secured by BlackBerry software."

The DTEK60 features a 5.5" Quad HD display with an 8 megapixel (MP) front camera and a 21MP auto-focus rear camera. It is powered by Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC with Adreno 530 graphics and 4GB of RAM.

The device also has 32GB internal storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD, uses USB Type-C and has a fingerprint sensor. The DTEK60 has a non-removable Lithium-Ion 3000mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 technology that can last up to 24 hours.

BlackBerry's latest Android device is not manufactured by the company, following its transition towards a device software licensing strategy. TCL Corporation manufactures the DTEK60.

Techspot India reports that less than a month ago, BlackBerry chief John Chen announced that he planned to end all internal hardware development. He said the company would be outsourcing the function to manufacturing partners and they will concentrate instead on software licensing.

BlackBerry said that the DTEK60 will be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will have the company's array of security features. The new smartphone will be available in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, the U.K., Spain, Italy and the Netherlands for a price tag of US$499.
