The 2016-2017 NBA season is underway and the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to defend their first ever title. Big trades and deals were done by different teams in the offseason and the most notable one is Kevin Durant going to Golden State Warriors. With the Cavaliers' supremacy being threatened, rumors have spread that the franchise will get Carmelo Anthony in exchange for Kevin Love. Will this be another NBA blockbuster trade?
Love was acquired by the Cavaliers from the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2014 in exchange for 1st overall pick Andrew Wiggins and the move was considered as an NBA blockbuster trade at that time. Love was a double-double machine and already an established power forward in the league. But with his stay with the Cavs, critics have questioned Love's performances, especially in the June Finals last season against the Warriors.
Now, according to a report by the Parent Herald, it is rumored that the Cavaliers might trade Kevin Love to the New York Knicks in exchange for Carmelo Anthony which could be another blockbuster trade in the making. The Cavs would get Anthony who is a player of superstar caliber that could help match the Warriors' acquisition of Kevin Durant. The Knicks in return would get a much younger forward who could help their struggling team in the few years to come.
Statistically, Carmelo is definitely an upgrade for the Cavs as he averages 24.9 PPG, 3.2 APG and 6.6 RPG in his career while Love's career averages are 18.4 PPG, 11.5 RPG and 0.5 BLKPG. But Anthony has been criticized by many for being a failure in accomplishing post season success and there's a risk if this blockbuster trade would work out.
But according to the Inquisitr, this NBA blockbuster trade could work out as the Cavs could use a fast and small lineup putting Anthony, James and Irving at the same time. There's still room for an argument if this trade works out so fans need to keep a close eye in this new NBA season.
