The Cleveland Cavaliers were reportedly searching for a backup point guard but it appears that the search is finally over. NBA trade rumors have it that the Cavaliers will acquire Mario Chalmers after he is cleared to play early in December. Lebron James will finally play alongside his former teammate.
There were reports of the Cavaliers looking for a point guard to come off the bench to keep Kyrie Irving's minutes low. With the Cavs looking sharp this season being 1st in the Easter conference, keeping Irving healthy is a priority. A solid back up point guard is the solution to avoid Irving getting injuries which could jeopardize a playoff run.
Bleacher Report reported that the team is currently eyeing a few names like Norris Cole, Deron Williams and DJ Augustin. But these three players seem unavailable because of their current affiliation to their respective teams.
According to CBS Sports, Cole is overseas playing for the Shandong Golden Stars in the Chinese Basketball Association. He has the option of leaving his current team in China but is not available until next year.
Williams and Augustin would be better options since the two would be available on Dec. 15. But these two would require good offers from the Cavs so NBA trade rumors have it that Chalmers is the best option.
Chalmers(30)was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies after he got an injury in his right Achilles tendon. But many teams have been in touch with him to see if he's recovering according to ESPN. The 8-year veteran would be a solid point guard for any team provided he recovers and stays healthy.
James and Chalmers played for the Miami and both players helped the franchise win its 2nd and 3rd championship title in the 2012 and 2013 season. But after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 NBA finals, the team was disbanded and James went back to Cleveland while Chalmers went to the Grizzlies.
It would be a sight to see if Chalmers and James play together for a few more seasons. These NBA trade rumors could materialize so fans just need to wait before the year ends.
