In the 2016 US Presidential Elections, Donald Trump won the electoral vote and was declared the President-Elect of the United States of America. However, the popular vote tells a different story with Hilary Clinton surging past Trump with more than 2.2 million votes. But despite these facts, the President-elect claims that he won that too.
The popular vote counted as of November 28, 2016, is at 134.2 million according to the news site Inquisitr. The report states that Hilary Clinton has 64,654,445 votes nationwide while Donald Trump currently has 62,418,792.
With those numbers in, Clinton leads the popular vote by 2,235,653 votes over Trump. That is a 1.7 percent lead against Trump and is the largest lead since 1876 by a candidate who lost the Electoral College. And the gap is still expected to get wider.
Despite all these, President-elect Donald Trump claims that he won the popular vote too. In a report by The Washington Post, it was mentioned that Trump argues that millions of votes counted for Clinton are not valid.
In a tweet by the President-elect, he stated that aside from having a landslide victory in the Electoral College, he also won the popular vote if the millions of illegal votes were deducted from Clinton. However, as the report had mentioned, there were no data behind this claim.
Over the weekend, Donald Trump was also upset by the news about an effort to call for a recount in three of the states where he won with a marginally thin gap. The President-elect believes that the effort is "a scam" and that "the people have spoken and the election is over."
The election is indeed over, however, the vote count is not. Trump has famously criticized the Electoral College for years, the very thing which made him win, but not in a landslide as he claims. Can it really be true that there are people who voted illegally for Clinton? America needs to know.
