Disney's new princess "Moana" has truly captured hearts on its launch on the silver screen as it took the number one spot in the list of the highest grossing movies over the long holiday-weekend. The movie was first released in November 14, 2016 in the United States and had multiple screenings from various countries around the world.
According to the ABC News, "Moana" tops the box office rankings earning around $81.1 million on its five-day Thanksgiving opening. Thus making it the second-largest grossing movie of all time for the said launch period next to "Frozen" in 2013. And replacing the 1999's "Toy Story 2".
Aside from such, "Moana" also snatched the third place in the highest three-day Thanksgiving opening of all time with an estimated gross sales of $55.5 million as per the Box Office Mojo. This makes Disney dominate the list of top 10 with now 9 entries movies for the largest sales from both three and five-day Thanksgiving openings.
"Moana" is an animated movie, featuring the voices of Auli'I Cravalho and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson that talked about an epic journey of a strong-willed daughter of the Polenesian tribe leader. It was the one who was chosen by the sea itself, with the aid of a demi-god in order to help save her people.
Following "Moana" was "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" starring Eddie Redmayne with an estimated gross of $65.8 million. Next to it was another Disney-Marvel collaborated film "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch with around $18.9 million sales.
Finishing on the 4th and 5th spots are Brad Pitt and Marion Cottilard's movie "Allied" with an estimated $18 million sales and "Arrival" starring Amy Adams grabbing $15.6 million sales over the long holiday-weekend.
