Cannot get over with Vampire Chronicles series? You will be able to watch them into TV soon, and it will be produced by its very author Anne Rice! On November 26, Rice stated that she has regained theatrical rights to bring her famous book into TV, mentioning "television is where the vampires belong."
Vampire Chronicles is a series of gothic horror novels centered on the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a nobleman that turned into a vampire in the 18th century. In the novel, vampires are immortal and have superhuman powers. The book series follows Lestat's exploits around the world. Vampire Chronicles have 12 entries, the most recent, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, was published on November 29, 2016.
Universal and Imagine had acquired film rights to the book series, but Rice stated that the novel are better suited for TV. Rice could be right, as vampire novels, films and themed TV shows have proved to be very lucrative and hugely popular.
According to Enetertainment Weekly, Rice along with her son Christopher (also a known author) is "developing a pilot script and a detailed outline for an open-ended series faithfully presenting Lestat's story as it is told in the books, complete with many situations that readers expect to see." Rice stated she was inspired by fan fervor for Game of Thrones, assuring her own fans that "What you want is what I want."
Vampire Chronicles series have proved very popular and have developed a strong fanbase, having sold more than 80 million books. The film adaptation of Interview of the Vampires, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, had ticket sales of several million dollars. Therefore, this decision by Rice to put her book into TV is a wise move.
Rice stated that she will likely start with The Vampire Lestat, the second book in the series, and "move on from there."
