With the surplus of young talent in the Boston Celtics' roster, they should only be one superstar away from posing a formidable threat to other NBA championship contenders. The Celtics are reportedly looking to fill that hole with Indiana Pacers' Paul George.
The Celtics have been busy in the trade market during the offseason and still, hopes to land another superstar that could help make it a legitimate contender for the championship. Last summer, they landed their biggest acquisition yet with Al Horford, but the team's not yet through forming their core lineup.
According to the latest report from NBA Trade Rumors, a deal might be in motion that can set up a three-for-one trade between the Celtics and the Pacers. Boston is reportedly sending Jae Crowder, Amir Johnson, and Kelly Olynyk, as well as four additional draft picks to Indiana, all to acquire Paul George.
The Celtics don't believe this as a lucrative deal, as they think that this offer just about sums up George's value. George is currently notching averages of 20.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in the 12 games he's played for the '16-'17 season.
The question lies whether Larry Bird, the Pacers President of Basketball Operations, will allow the trade to materialize. Bird has announced that they are pulling all stops to keep George on the Pacers roster and are looking to sign him to a maximum contract extension.
"We want Paul here and we know what it's going to cost," Bird told IndyStar, adding that they knew what it's going to take. "It's a max deal. There's no other, so there's no use talking about it. If he wants it, he's got it."
The Celtics are not only the team that is looking to get the three-time NBA All-Star. Jobs & Hire reported earlier in November that the Oklahoma City Thunder is also interested in acquiring George to fill the hole that Kevin Durant left when he packed his bags for the Golden State Warriors.
