Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars. He is also expecting a second child. And his daughter seems to be taking after him on comedy.
The Emmy-award winning host is set to host the 89th Oscar Awards ceremonies in February 2017. CNN reports that Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has said that "Jimmy has the qualities of all the great hosts."
For his part, Kimmel expressed excitement and joked, "The producers and the Academy went through a long list of names -- and in the end, they decided that -- since I am already right across the street from where they do the show -- I was the closest person to host." Then he added, "I guess I have to get a tux now. Or maybe I'll wear jean shorts?"
In addition to his bagging the Oscars gig, Kimmel also announced that he and wife Molly McNearny are expecting their second child. People.com quotes the host saying, "Also, my wife, is hosting a baby inside her body. So that's what's coming... It does add a little bit of joy to each day. Maybe more than a little bit." Kimmel had expressed initial anxiety over the new pregnancy, but all seemed well when the couple was seen with McNearny's baby bump during the premiere of "The Office Christmas Party" in which McNearny stars.
Perez Hilton took delight in what seems to be Kimmel's comedic chops getting passed on to his daughter. Hilton pointed out a recent tweet by McNearny showing the couple's eldest, 2-year-old Jane, bent over a toilet bowl captioned "'Look! I'm Mama!' (My daughter doing her impression of me pregnant)".
The 49-year-old Kimmel sums it all up by saying, "So - there's a lot of exciting stuff going on. Congratulations to me. I'm hosting the Oscars and I had sex. Two things as a teenage boy I never thought would be possible."
