The film "Patriots Day" produced by CBC Films and distributed by Lionsgate will be featured on Dec. 21, 2016 simultaneously in New York City, Los Angeles and Boston. Mark Wahlberg stars in the film that gathered positive reviews when it premiered at the AFI fest last month.
The film is based on a true story about law enforcement efforts to catch the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombing, an unfortunate event that shocked the whole country. It remains to be seen if people will be interested in a film about a recent event that is still fresh in the memories of the audience.
If the reviews were to serve as a guide, the film is definitely one of the best ones in 2016. According to Forbes, "Patriots Day" is the second collaboration of Director Peter Berg with Mark Wahlberg. They first made "Deepwater Horizon," another film based on a true story about a recent event in American history.
"Patriots Day" relates the horror of the 2013 terror attack on the Boston Marathon and its debilitating effects on the victims. Kevin Bacon, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, Melissa Benoist and J.K. Simmons are also in the cast.
USA Today reported what Director Peter Berg had this to say about the film. "There are a lot of reasons that Mark and I wanted to make the film, and one of them is to be unapologetic in our support of law enforcement," Berg said. "We are so grateful for what law enforcement can do when we really need them. And I think one of the things we saw in response to Boston was the very best of law enforcement, and a reminder of why we are so lucky to have these men and women serving for us, ready to come to our rescue and defense."
Mark Wahlberg's role as the fictional police officer assigned in the case was spectacular, mixing thrilling action and dramatic scenes. If only for this reason, "Patriots Day" is expected to fare well in the cinemas.
