Former French Open Champion and a doubles expert, Tony Roche, predicts that Roger Federer will win "one or two" more major titles before retiring. The 71-year-old tennis coach also said that Murray has a slight edge over Djokovic.
Tony Roche was Federer's former coach. Wikipedia puts it that Roche started coaching in 2005. It was said that the Swiss maestro needed a thing or two from the former clay champion. Federer was moved to the sideline of tennis this year after suffering from knee injury. His last game was a semi-final defeat to Milos Ronic in July at Wimbledon.
He is expected to attend the annual International Premier Tennis League. However, due to lack of funding, he withdrew from the tournament. He is expected to show up next month in Perth before the start of the Australian Open.
In an interview by Yahoo, Roche said that at the moment, Murray enjoys a small advantage over Djokovic. He believed that Ivan Lendl is Murray's asset. He noted that when the two first working together, Murray won his first Grand Slam and an Olympic gold. However, he cautioned Murray not to count Novak out yet as the Serb has won the Australian Open five times.
Roche also explained why Djokovic was not able to retain his number one ranking. For, him Djokovic have done tremendously on the first six months. Retaining the same intensity of play is both physically and mentally draining. Djokovic had hard time sustaining the same level of toughness necessary for him to stay on top.
Meanwhile, a report from Jobs & Hire this year highlighted Murray's strong conviction to out-run Roger Federer in the French Open. However, if he aims to tie with the maetro's record, it will still be a long shot for sure.
