Meet "Grucy," Balthazar Bratt and Dru in the newly-released trailer of "Despicable Me 3". "Grucy" is not a new character in the third installment of the franchise. It's a "ship" name (yes, that millennial term).
Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment released the trailer that features beloved characters Gru (Steve Carell), Lucy (Kristin Wiig) and the Minions. Joining them is a new villain, Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), a child star from the 80's who didn't quite leave that decade behind.
Entertainment Weekly describes Bratt as "a former child star who's turned to a life of international crime. Obsessed with the '80s, Bratt's signature look sports the mullet hairdo and wears shoulder pads. He dances like Michael Jackson, and his arsenal includes an exploding Rubik's cube, an ever-expanding bubble gum and a sound-blasting electric keytar. He can moonwalk on water and prefers "dance-fighting" against Gru.
Previous reports have already revealed that Bratt simply wants world domination to get back at everyone who had ever made fun of him at the lowest time of his life-- at puberty-- "because people can't make fun of you if you're in charge of the Earth, right?" But The Daily Mail touted the movie as one to "prove that good always succeeds over evil" when Gru sucker punches Bratt.
Cinema Blend reports some revelations by Illumination Entertainment executive Chris Meledandri. The movie's plot will be heavy on the sibling rivalry between Gru and his long-lost twin brother Dru, who will also be voiced by Carell. Drew looks almost exactly like Gru except for the lush blond hair and the preference for white clothes in contrast to Gru's grays. The two will join forces to defeat Bratt.
More teasers are expected about the movie. That's all fans are going to get until the movie opens on June 30, 2017.
