'Avatar 2' Latest News and Updates: December 2018 Release Still In Jeopardy Due To Late Production Starts

"Avatar," the highest-grossing film of all time having raked in $2.782 billion worldwide, has some fantastic plans for the sequels. With the high bar set by Director James Cameron, the creators are taking their time to make sure fans don't get disappointed.

The latest release date set for "Avatar 2" is in December 2018. The original schedule has been changed many times due to the late start of production dates. Plus the new plan is to make four sequels simultaneously. So don't be surprised if this supposed December 2018 might be changed again.

It is most likely that the rating for "Avatar 2" will still be PG-13, just like in the original. It is very unlikely that it will become Rated R because of its potential to become a blockbuster again.

The first "Avatar" movie was a passion for Director James Cameron, so one cannot expect him to just hand over the next sequels to someone else. He is sure to push the boundaries again regarding the technological aspect of the film, by introducing the latest in film technology.

For the original "Avatar," James Cameron was the sole screenwriter, but for "Avatar 2", and even 3, 4, and 5, he has brought in some people to collaborate with. The challenge really for James Cameron is while he is trying to write a story, he is also trying to write four movies at the same time.

Sam Worthington will still come back as Jake Sully, the main character, while Zoe Zaldana is still Neytiri. Cameron previously revealed that a major theme for his planned films would be family. "The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It's more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans," via Cinemablend.

They say nobody is really dying in a science-fiction movie. Remember that Dr. Grace Augustine, the role played by Sigourney Weaver in which she actually died in the last movie? Apparently, the plan for "Avatar 2" was not going to stop her from appearing again in the sequel. The rule also applies to Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quaritch, who fans last remember getting two arrows through the chest courtesy of Neytiri, according to DigitalSpy.
