South Korea is about to construct the world's very first 'invisible' tower.
The Tower Infinity, a 1,476-feet-tall glass structure is designed by GDS Architects, an American design and planning firm.
The South Korean government recently granted notice to proceed to build Tower Infinity. It is set to stand right outside Seoul. The tall cutting-edge skyscraper will be located at the heart of the Yongsan International Business District near the Incheon International Airport.
LEDs and cameras on the glass exterior of the building is the secret behind the 'invisibility'. A 'reflective skin' creates the illusion that the building is invisible. Once the LED lighting and cameras are turned on, Tower Infinity's glass walls will 'blend with the skyline' and appear to disappear.
The green architecture and design website Inhabitat reports that the South Korean skyscraper will also have a giant roller coaster, a 4D movie theater, water park, wedding and event spaces, landscaped gardens and restaurants. It will also have the third-highest observation deck in the world. The floor plan is also open to allow viewing down multiple levels.
Once completed, Tower Infinity will stand among the world's top 10 tallest buildings. A completion date, however, has not yet been released by the developer.
In a statement, GDS remarks: "Instead of symbolizing prominence as another of the world's tallest and best towers, it sets itself apart by celebrating the global community rather than focusing on itself."
"The tower subtly demonstrates Korea's rising position in the world by establishing its most powerful presence through diminishing its presence."
"Instead of symbolizing prominence as another of the world's tallest and best towers, our solution aims to provide the world's first invisible tower, showcasing innovative Korean technology while encouraging a more global narrative in the process," said Charles Wee, GDS design principal, according to CNN.
