If you're a salesperson and you barely made your quota in 2016, take heart: the best is yet to come for you this year, and there are various things that you can do to get more sales. All it takes is a willingness to learn new things, a change of routine, and a bit of attitude adjustment, and you could be raking in the dough by the end of 2017.
It's important to remember that there is no set formula for being a great salesperson. Certain tactics that work for some people may not be as effective for others. However, there are a few tricks that successful salespeople do which ultimately lead to sales.
Here are some tips and tricks that salespeople can do to close more sales this year.
Use social media to your advantage
You may be killing it on Facebook, but it's time to branch out and get your product noticed on other platforms. Twitter is a great place for salespeople to connect with potential clients and get more sales this year. If you're selling something that needs to be seen to be appreciated, like real estate, jewelry, and the like, then get on Instagram and start posting pictures right away.
Talk less and listen more
According to Salesforce commercial account executive Tarun Pant (via Business Insider), it's a good practice to listen when selling to people with different backgrounds.
"Keep asking why 'til you understand what's really driving change in the business," said Pant. Moreover, listening to people will clue you into what they want with regards to pricing, payment options and the like, and you can find ways to make it happen for them.
Be available on email and on your phone
Nothing is worse than missing a sale due to the fact that your customer can't get a hold of you on your phone or on your email. Make sure that you're available and respond to text messages and emails as soon as you can. Also, check that your phone battery is fully charged so you're able to have a full conversation with prospective clients.
Start your day right to get into a positive state of mind
Wake up early and plan your day. Workout, have a healthy breakfast and play your favorite music in the morning to get into a good mood. When you start your day right, you'll carry over that positive energy throughout your day, and you'll be more optimistic as you communicate with your clients.
Be your own cheerleader
Don't wait for your supervisor to give you a pep talk--do it yourself! Be your own personal cheerleader and find ways to motivate yourself especially when a sale appears to be not quite within your reach.
