Richard Branson is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world, as the business magnate has an estimated net worth of $5 billion. But what makes him and his contemporaries such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg successful? Do these three men share common skills and abilities that have made them to be the most respected businessmen in recent times?
Branson took to his blog on Monday, Jan. 30 and said that no two successful businessmen are the same, as it is their individuality and different ways of thinking that make them successful. However, having met numerous leaders over the years, the philanthropist said that he has come to realize that the most successful entrepreneurs share five distinct skills and abilities.
The Virgin Group founder said that first, successful entrepreneurs are in the habit of taking calculated risks, and that anyone can create their own luck by taking the necessary risks to open opportunities for change, progression, and success. Branson also said that every successful person has learned from failure.
“Successful entrepreneurs don’t fear failure; they learn from it and move on,” he added.
He pointed out that successful people often see the bigger picture, and that they know how to delegate wisely. Lastly, Branson said that successful entrepreneurs know how to communicate effectively.
“It’s not just about speaking or reading, but understanding what is being said—and in some cases, what is not being said,” said Branson.
The 66-year-old’s followers commented on the post, with some citing other skills and abilities that they feel successful entrepreneurs share. Samantha Jones said that a person needs to be passionate and believe in what he or she is doing. Meanwhile, Manuel Rodrigues said that is important for every entrepreneur to have the skill to cope well with uncertainty.
“Start-ups are nothing but messy and it is all about providing clarity and structure in the middle of chaos,” said Rodrigues.
