Miss USA Universe 2013, Erin Brady, shares the personal struggles she had to go through early in her life so she can be where she is today.
Though it may be all glitz and glamor these days for the 25-year-old beauty queen representing the United States, Erin Brady shares that she had a tough childhood growing up with an alcoholic father and raising her sisters on her own. The Connecticut native said that she moved out when she was 18 years old so she can work two jobs to support her two sisters, Lauren and Audrey.
The beauty queen recalls that the "messy" divorce led to a broken home, but it didn't stop her from achieving her dreams. Upon moving out, Brady worked as a waitress at Max Amore restaurant in Glastonbury, Connecticut. This move allowed her to raise enough money so she can put her sisters and herself to school. Friends of the brunette beauty also recalled how Erin worked hard to support herself throughout college.
"Erin has always watched out for her sisters. She was a real big sister to them, she stepped up to that role and made sure they didn't get involved with drink or drugs or anything like that. I don't know where she gets the will to succeed like that - she has always been that way. Getting on the school honor roll was not enough for her, she had to be on the high honor roll too," said 75-year-old Theresa Brady, Erin's paternal grandmother, to the Daily Mail.
Erin graduated with honors from Central University, where she took up finance and a minor in criminal justice. When Erin graduated, she bagged a job in Prudential and it became the start of her rise to success. Though far from home, Erin always made sure that family came first.
Just a couple of weeks from now, Erin will parade together with 85 other confirmed delegates for the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Crocus City Hall, Moscow on November 9. Her will to succeed and passion for life will surely be Erin's best assets, and it won't be a surprise if she will bag the crown this year.
Will it be a back-to-back Miss Universe win for USA?
