A Navy recruiter who had recently been relieved of duty, opened fire injuring two soldiers at an armory outside the U.S. Navy base in Millington, Memphis.
The suspect, now in custody, was reportedly shooting at random people after going to his car and injuring one in the leg and another in the foot.
"The National Guardsman was tackled, subdued and disarmed by other soldiers before he was taken into custody," officials said. "The Naval Support Activity was briefly put on lockdown as a precaution, but has since lifted that restriction."
The incident comes just six weeks after a mass shooting occurred at Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., where Aaron Alexis, a government contractor, killed 12 people and injured three more before he died during a gunfight with police.
