Typhoon Haiyan forced the exodus of an estimated 4 million people in the Philippines surpassing the combined number of those who ran away leaving their home behind when Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean tsunami struck respectively areas.
After the worst catastrophe in the history of Philippines, only three pathologists, at a rate of 15 bodies per hour, struggled to identify dozens of corpses as more than 3,900 people are believed to have been killed.
In 10 days after Haiyan landed off, Philippines has set up 1,551 shelters crowded with more than 74,000 families waiting for a home while President Benigno Aquino III ordered coconut industry to hire 600 workers to cut coconut trees and use their wood to build new homes.
So far, more than $270 million in foreign aid has been donated to help Haiyan victims. Aquino promised full transparency in reconstruction spending establishing a website called "Foreign Aid Transparency Hub", a place donors can track funds, since lots of allegedly relief funds have emerged claiming to be meant for Philippine community.
