In "Mentalist" season 6 episode 8, "The Great Red Dragon," protagonist Patrick Jane has revealed that Gale Bertram (Michael Gaston) is Red John, the serial killer that has eluded authorities for six seasons. Prior to "Mentalist" season 6 episode 8, Bertram has gone on and killed a bartender, and is currently on the run from the authorities that are hot on his trail. Meanwhile, the other Red John suspect, Reede Smith, has been lying low and is under CBI protection. Several fans are still convinced that this is a ruse, and that the actual Red John has yet to be revealed.

In the previous installment of "Mentalist," titled "The Great Red Dragon," Gale Bertram escaped the explosion, and has attempted to kill Jane while he is at the hospital. He has since been seen recovering money and fake passports, preparing to escape.

In "Mentalist" season 6 episode 8, it has been revealed that Red John is part of a secret organization, the "Blake Association," after poet and artist William Blake, hence the 'tiger, tiger' reference. Reede tells Jane everything, and pleads to Jane that he is not Red John, which Jane believes.
When fans watch "Mentalist" season 6 episode 8 online, they may watch out for the part where Jane and Red John face off in a church, a scene present in "Mentalist" season 6 episode 8 promos. What will they have to say to one another? Will Jane finally have his revenge after ten years?
While creators of "Mentalist" say that the final Red John episode will be the end f an era, it will not be the end of "Mentalist." Sources have however revealed that the next episode after the "Red John" episode will be set two years after the "Red John" events. Jane will be older, and the show will be lighter in tone.
