A Glasgow pub was unexpectedly hit by a helicopter that crashed its roof Friday amid a busy crowd. One person has been reportedly killed, but authorities are still expecting the Glasgow pub death toll to rise, Times of India reported Saturday.
According to the report, over 100 people were inside the Glasgow pub, The Clutcha bar, enjoying the night away while a live band was playing. Unfortunately the unexpected crash happened which sent 32 people into several nearby hospitals through responding ambulances Friday night.
Stephen House, Scotland police chief confirmed the number of people taken by ambulances hours after the accident. Meanwhile, first minister Alex Salmond referred to it as a "black day" for Scotland because of the crash in an interview where he sent his condolences to the families of the victims.
"Sadly I can also confirm one fatality. We expect that number to increase over the coming hours," House said.
Authorities have not confirmed yet whether there are still people trapped inside the Glasgow pub.
Nevertheless, Salmond expressed his gratitude for the immediate response of the authorities involved.
"All of us have seen over the last few hours the speed and the effectiveness of the mobilisation of emergency services in dealing with this tragedy. We've also heard of the instinctive courage of ordinary Glaswegians going to assist their fellow citizens in extremity," Salmond said in an interview.
At the end of his interview Salmond added that despite the tragedy in Glasgow during St. Andrew's Day, he is more than pleased to see how everyone helped in responding to the "extraordinary" accident.
