The Mega Millions jackpot has been won by not just one but two lucky winning ticket holders, Mega Millions Lottery officials said today.
According to USA Today, the two winning tickets were sold in California and Georgia, and the winners will be sharing the $636 million jackpot prize, the second-largest lottery jackpot prize in the history of Mega Millions Lottery.
California Lottery Spokesman Alex Traverso said that one of the two winners bought the winning ticket at Jennifer's Gift Shop in San Jose. Meanwhile, the other one was bought at the Gateway Newsstand in Atlanta.
Because of the way too big jackpot prize, the ticket sales for last night's draw skyrocketed. Traverso even told the Associated Press, that "at one point, we were selling about 25,000 tickets per minute." He also added, "It's been an amazing experience. It's unbelievable."
Thuy Nguyen, the owner of Jennifer's Gift Shop will be receiving $1 million for selling the winning ticket.
"I am so happy, I feel good," Nguyen said when asked on his thoughts after he found out that his store sold one of the winning tickets.
The Mega Millions winning numbers were 8, 20, 14, 17, 39, and the Mega Ball was 7.
Because the $636 million jackpot prize has already been seized, the jackpot prize for the Mega Millions draw will reset to $15 million the next draw, which is going to be on Friday night.
