Jennifer Lawrence took home the gold and the glory for this year's Associated Press awards, beating singer Miley Cyrus by one vote for the title Entertainer of the Year.
Jennifer Lawrence and Miley Cyrus had been the final contenders for Associated Press' Entertainer of the Year award and after concluding the annual poll of its newspaper and broadcast crew and viewers, Lawrence has been declared as this year's winner.
There had been 70 ballots in total submitted by American news directors and editors. Voters for the award were told to give ample consideration on who had the most influence for 2013's entertainment and culture.
Jennifer Lawrence won with 15 votes, just one vote difference from Cyrus' 14. Netflix had been a close third for the title, gaining 13 votes of approval for changing the television landscape with its hit original series and on-demand format.
However Jennifer Lawrence easily won the most fans with her charming and frank personality. The 23-year-old kicked off 2013 with a bang by taking home the Academy Award for Best Actress, dominated blockbuster trilogy "The Hunger Games" as Katniss Everdeen. She didn't stop there and instead wrapped up this year by playing a critically recognized performance for mobster drama "American Hustle" that recently earned her Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nods.
"The Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence had also grown into a fashion favorite as Dior's muse and also made headlines with her bold pixie haircut.
The 23-year-old, "American Hustle" actress "is not only talented and beautiful, but comes off as incredibly intelligent, genuine, funny and well-spoken in her public appearances and interviews," wrote The Derrick and News-Herald Newspaper Writer Kristi Runyan. "It's refreshing to see a young woman not squandering her talent and success by succumbing to the temptations many do in Hollywood and who actively speaks about the ridiculous behavior of some of her peers."
Jennifer Lawrence's contender Miley Cyrus also made a splash this year, only with continuously ridiculous and rude behavior.
The "Wrecking Ball" singer raised a lot of eyebrows and sparked controversy just this year with her continuous crazy stunts like twerking, public pot smoking and nudity.
The 21-year-old also surprised everyone with a daring pixie chop but her controversial split with ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth and increasingly sexualized scenes and performances made her the most talked about person of 2013.
"She made the biggest splash, without comment on whether I thought it was a good thing," commented KMPH-TV representative Jim Turpin.
Previous titleholders of the award before Jennifer Lawrence included Lady Gaga, Betty White, Tina Fey, Adele, and Stephen Colbert, who is the only male winner in seven years of the award.
