Ryan Reynolds may not be returning to the big screen to revive his Green Lantern person for "Batman VS Superman" as Denzel Washington is reportedly being considered for the role instead.
Hollywood veteran Denzel Washington had reportedly turned down a major role in "Fast And Furious 7," paving the way for Kurt Russell to take over the driver's seat and Washington's intended role for the highly anticipated 2015 film.
However Washington was also allegedly being considered for the role of Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Batman VS Superman" movie. The "Independence Day" actor was reportedly one of the execs top choices for the role, though most believe the rumor to be untrue as Lex Luthor is usually played by a white man.
Chances of Washington taking the role of the evil mastermind could still be true as movies based on comic books have been known to do the unthinkable before and break more than a few conventional comic book truths. Previously, Michael Clarke Duncan had taken on the role of Kingpin, despite the fact that the original comic book version of the villain Wilson Fisk was a white guy.
In the latest in the continuous stream of "Batman VS Superman" rumors, reports claim that Denzel Washington will taking over Ryan Reynolds' role as Green Lantern in the film, supplanting the "Proposal" star as Hal Jordan.
The rumor this time is more likely than the others as it does coincide with the comic books.
Reynolds had played the Hal Jordan version of the iconic superhero in "The Green Lantern" film while Denzel Washington will reportedly portray John Stewart, who happens to be black.
Rumors of Washington taking over the role were further fueled after Ryan Reynolds confessed in an interview that he had "very little interest" in taking up the role of Green Lantern for the future.
"[The Green Lantern movie showed me] how difficult it is to make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly-that world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with," Reynolds said when asked if he was looking forward to playing the superhero once more for a possible Justic League film.
