Although the scooter rider's face was hidden by a black motorcycle helmet, Closer claimed that man was president Hollande.

Subsequent images followed the following morning with the same group of characters capture in photos, but a woman, who resembles Gayet appeared and walked away.

As of this write, neither Hollanded nor Gayet have given any comments regarding the French magazine's claim, which led to the story becoming viral on cyberspace for several months.

The well-regarded news weekly L'Express reported last month that the security services of the presidential palace were increasingly getting concerned with the president's "escapades."

With Closer's recent expose, the president's office issued a statement saying that Hollande "greatly deplores the invasion of his privacy, to which he has a right as any other citizen does".

The statement continued saying, Hollande "studying what action, including legal action, to take following this publication."
