[SHOCKING] 'How I Met Your Mother' Final Scene Was Filmed 8 Years Ago: Co-Creators Reveal Why

'How I Met Your Mother' final scene was filmed about eight years ago, and series co-creators revealed the main reason why just recently.

According to CBS News, the last scene for the finale of the long-running series 'How I Met Your Mother' was actually filmed a little too early - while the show was just on its second season.

Co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and the producers of the hit Monday-night comedy said that eight years ago, they actually feared that the actors involved would become unrecognizable after some time. Hence, they decided to shoot the finale scene and keep it under wraps since then.

'How I Met Your Mother' follows the story narrated by Ted (Josh Radnor) to his teenage children about how he met their mom. At the start of the series, the actors who play Ted's children, David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca, were presented sitting on a couch whilst listening to their father narrating the events that led him to their mother. And after nine seasons, Ted's narration is finally to end come March 31 in a one-hour finale episode.

As of late, actress Cristin Milioti was already revealed to play the titular mother, but fans are still oblivious on how the two really met and how their romance began.

Bays and Thomas said recently that from the very beginning, they were pretty much aware about the main plan on how the show is to end. The co-creators knew that the Ted's teenage kids would be a key component in closing the series.

Thus, in 2006, while 'How I Met Your Mother' was just staring its second season and given the plan of making an eight-season show, Bays and Thomas decided to film the final scene for the series since according to them, the teenage actors were growing up fast and if they waited for the series to unfold to its finale prior to shooting the final scene, the two "wouldn't even be able to fit in the clothes they wear while sitting on the couch.

Bays and Thomas even revealed that the last scene was shot secretly adding that Henrie and Fonseca were filmed using one camera and the filming lasted for two minutes only. The young actors were then made to sign non-disclosure agreements.

Finally, although the ninth season was not part of the original plan for 'How I Met Your Mother,' co-creators said that it did not affect their original plan for the final scene at all.

"It's been the plan all along," Thomas added. "What you see on March 31 has been the plan. We leave the series with a certain message that we wanted to convey."
