The Sacramento Kings are not yet done dealing this season as reports indicated that they are expected to be one of the busiest teams before the Feb. 20 trade deadline.
According to Basketball Insiders, the Kings will look to become sellers before the deadline with sources indicating that both Jimmer Fredette and Marcus Thornton could change zip codes in the coming weeks.
The Kings are reportedly planning to package Fredette and Thornton in exchange for a high-caliber player, who can help the team become at least a playoff contender in the next few seasons.
However, sources added that the Kings are not getting significant interest in their trade assets, particularly Fredette and Thornton, who has been not as productive as they were last season.
Fredette, the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, is averaging just 5.8 points per game this season, while Thornton's point production is down from 12.7 points last season to 8.4 this year.
"The Kings continue to be active in trade talks. The two most mentioned names are guards Marcus Thornton and Jimmer Fredette. Combined they become an interesting salary cap value that could return a major salary player. The problem is there does not seem to be a whole lot of interest in either player," Basketball Insiders noted.
One possible deal that the Kings could make is a trade with the Denver Nuggets. The Kings are reportedly interested in trading for veteran point guard Andre Miller, who is expected to be dealt by the Nuggets anytime soon.
Meanwhile, aside from making trades in the coming weeks, the Kings are also expected to try and secure a long-term deal with Rudy Gay, who could become a free agent after the current season.
When asked whether or not he will opt out of the final year of his contract in the offseason, Gay said that he is not yet thinking about it, but the 27-year-old forward sounded like he is leaning towards staying with the Kings.
"I'm not sure. I have to go into the summer with my people, think about everything, weigh out the pros and cons. I don't know yet. But Sacramento's been great to me thus far. Obviously I'm trying to tune it all out right now. All I can think about right now is how great Sacramento's been to me," Gay said.
