Floyd Mayweather Jr. Next Fight: Amir Khan Thinks His Speed And Style Is Enough To Defeat Pound-for-Pound King

British boxing star Amir Khan expressed confidence about his chances when he gets the opportunity to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In an interview with BoxingScene on Saturday, Khan confidently said that he has the speed and perfect style to pose a serious threat to Mayweather, who is expected to name his next opponent in the coming weeks.

The 27-year-old is aware that handing Mayweather his first ever defeat is no easy task, but he pointed out that the undefeated American has been picking opponents who love to come forward, which, according to Khan, is the reason why Mayweather is still undefeated at this point of his career.

"Styles make fights. We've seen Floyd go against guys who come forward, pressure fighters. We've not really seen him go against guys who are quick, who have quick foot work," Khan said.

Khan pointed out that in few times Mayweather opted to face speedy fighters, Mayweather was forced to get out into his comfort zone, including Mayweather's fight against Zab Judah in 2006.

"We've seen him a few times, against the likes of Zab Judah being quick and other fighters who were quick, who caused him a lot of problems, who had a good jab and good clean, crisp punches. That's what I bring to the table. I'm a different style and that's why I think I would give Floyd a lot of problems -- the movement, the explosiveness,"

Khan also hit the fighting style of Marcos Maidana, who is his closest competition in the race for Mayweather's next fight. The Bolton native, who defeated Maidana in a recent poll conducted by Mayweather on who to face on May 3rd, said that the Argentinian champion does not bring a lot of threat on the table.

According to Khan, Maidana lacks speed to become a threat and his rugged fighting style is tailor made for the 36-year-old pound-for-pound king.

"He's made for Floyd Mayweather," Khan said on Maidana. "People want to see Floyd against a different style. People may think I'm talking rubbish, but if you think about the last three opponents that Floyd faced, they had slow feet, slow hands. No disrespect they are great fighters but that [type of style] suits Floyd Mayweather."
