Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors and speculation can now be laid to rest as the tech company's flagship phone has now been revealed to the public. Samsung Galaxy S5 was recently unveiled by the South Korean tech juggernaut alongside other companies presenting top-shelf models at the MWC show in Barcelona. Samsung is currently aiming to present Galaxy S5 as the phone that "doesn't just imrpove specs all around, but improve the things that people will actually care about."
“We’ve decided to go back to basics with the Galaxy S5 and focus on the features and things that matter the most to our customers – namely the camera, ability to view and download data and content quickly and their health and wellbeing,” said Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland. “People want a smartphone that enhances and enables their mobile life. The Galaxy S5 represents just that, and we’re excited to see the response to our latest flagship smartphone device.”
Samsung Galaxy S5: Screen Size and Resolution
One of the most popular Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors that spread prior to its release was that the flagship phone would be equipped with a 5.25-inch screen with 2560x1440 QHD resolution. Both rumors were proven result after the Galaxy S5's launch, as it contained only a 5.1-inch screen with Full HD and 1920x1080 resolution.
Samsung Galaxy S5's screen size is a little larger compared to the Galaxy S4, which had a 4.99-inch display, however the resolution remains the same so fans may not be able to look forward to a vastly improved viewing experience.
However, many experts are arguing that Samsung's move may spell more advantage than loss, as adding pixels may not necessarily dramatically improve image quality. Despite the slightly larger screen, Samsung has only had to increase the size of the Samsung Galaxy S5 slightly and it measures 142x72.5x8.1mm and weighs 145g; this compares well to the Samsung Galaxy S4, which measures 136.6x69.8x7.9mm and weighs 130g.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Design
In terms of design, Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn't differ much in appearance from Galaxy S4. It retains its plastic-metal combination, with a characteristic ridged metal-effect band running round the side. More interesting is the IP67 rating, which means that the phone is both dust and water-resistant. That doesn't mean that you can go swimming in safety, but the S5 should be safe from day-to-day spillages.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Fingerprint Sensor
Samsung Galaxy S5's rumor of a fingerprint sensor being embedded into its system turns out to be highly accurate as the phone was introduced with a sensor built right into the Home Button. The new scanner, which can be used to unlock the phone with a finger swipe, puts Samsung Galaxy S5 neck-to-neck with the Apple iPhone 5S.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Camera
As predicted, Samsung has upped the sensor from the 13-megapixel version in the S4 to a 16-megapixel version for the Galaxy S5. Specs alone don't tell the story, as a larger sensor doesn't necessarily equal better image quality. However, it looks as though Samsung has worked on improving the experience.
If you're still not impressed, Samsung has also announced that Galaxy S5's camera is ranked the first in terms of fastest autofocus speed of as short as 0.3 seconds. This is about the same time it would take to lock your camera on the target so this means you need not waste time in focusing your camera if you've got Samsung Galaxy S5.
