David Letterman retiring from "Late Show" this 2015 is absolutely a total shocker to moat of the TV personality's fans. Just nearly two months after Jay Leno departed from NBC's "Tonight Show," Letterman has voiced out his plan of stepping down from Leno's show's longtime rival come 2015.
"The man who owns this network, Leslie Moonves, he and I have had a relationship for years and years and years, and we have had this conversation in the past, and we agreed that we would work together on this circumstance and the timing of this circumstance," Letterman said at Thursday's taping. "And I phoned him just before the program, and I said 'Leslie, it's been great, you've been great, and the network has been great, but I'm retiring.'"
"I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all of the people who have worked here, all of the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much. What this means now is that Paul and I can be married," David added, according to Yahoo News!
The soon-to-retire Letterman then revealed that although there isn't a fixed timetable for his departure from the "Late Show," he has already made up his mind that 2015 will be the year of his exit.
Former REM bassist Mike Mills was the first one to leak the report on Twitter that David Letterman is retiring.
"Dave just announced his retirement #2015 #muchlovedave," Mills' tweet reads.
Just a few minutes later, CNN reporter Brian Stelter confirmed what Mills wrote on the social networking site.
"It's true. David Letterman just announced he is retiring in 2015. More soon," Stelter tweeted.
