Mayweather vs Maidana: Amir Khan Won’t Overlook Luis Collazo, Vows To Win In Style

Amir Khan is aching to establish himself as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers today, and he vows to have his skills in full display in his return bout.

Khan, who is coming off two-straight wins against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz, will face Luis Collazo on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana showdown on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 28-year-old Briton will be considered favorite heading into the showdown, but he is not taking any chances, saying that he is looking forward to a tough challenge from Collazo.

Khan is worried about Collazo's tricky and awkward style along with his opponent's determination to win, but the former light welterweight kingpin said that he is excited about the upcoming showdown.

"Collazo is a very good fighter who is coming to win on May 3, so I know he can't be overlooked," Khan said in a RingTV interview. "He's tricky and awkward because of his southpaw style, and very determined. With someone like that you know you're going to be in for a tough challenge, but it's a fight that I'm really looking forward to."

Collazo has lost in previous big fights, but Khan said that he was impressed with the 33-year-old when he knocked Victor Ortiz out in the second round of their showdown in January.

"I was impressed because I don't think many experts tipped Collazo to win in that fashion," Khan said. "That's what I'm saying about his determination. He showed that he would not be beat that night and took it to Victor Ortiz, who is a very good fighter. It was an impressive performance, so I know that this is going to be a great matchup."

If Khan emerges victorious against Collazo, the Bolton, England native could land his dream bout against Mayweather, but Khan pointed out that he is not yet thinking about it.

"In the past I've gone into fights thinking about what's next but the truth is, in boxing, you should never look past your immediate opponent," Khan said. "If I do get past Collazo then we'll take it from there and sit down with my team. But for now, it's all about Collazo and May 3."
