The New York Knicks might have a new coach in place after the first round of the ongoing 2014 NBA Playoffs.
ESPN reported on Tuesday that the Knicks, led by team president Phil Jackson, are already discussing a possible deal with Steve Kerr for him to become the new coach of the squad.
According to reports, Jackson wants to finalize his first hiring after the first round in order for TNT, Kerr's current employer, to make adjustments to their broadcast schedule.
It is still unknown, though, whether or not Kerr, who is regarded as TNT's No. 1 analyst, is willing to cut short his TNT stint in the ongoing playoffs.
When asked about the rumored impending hiring, Kerr said that he has met with Jackson for the first time over the weekend, but there are still several details to talk about before finalizing a deal.
"We will keep talking," Kerr said. "There is a lot to cover on both sides. This was the first time we've talked about the job. It just opened up last week. We've got a lot of things to discuss."
Kerr, who previously served as Phoenix Suns general manager from 2007 to 2010, said that he and Jackson still have a lot of questions about the job, but he pointed out that he is convinced things will go on smoothly because they are on the same page when it comes to their vision for the team.
"I know Phil [said] we shared the same space, which I think is well said," Kerr said. "We share a lot of the same philosophies. I learned a lot of my basketball from him and Tex Winter. It is safe to say that we have a lot of the same ideas. As far as getting into the details of the triangle and that sort of thing, I am not going to expand on that."
If the deal pushes through, Bill Cartwright, another former player of Jackson, could join the Knicks coaching staff as reports indicated that Cartwright recently met with the legendary coach.
