Sandra Oh is leaving her physician antics behind, but as the countdown to her exit from the hit long-running ABC show draws nearer, many show fans can't help but wonder how her character, Dr. Christina Yang, is going to exit the almost hallow halls of the Grey Sloan Memorial. You're not thinking that she's going to get murdered ala Josh Charles' exit from 'The Good Wife,' are you? Anyhow, whatever way or manner the Dr. Yang is exiting the storyline, it's obvious that viewers will find it hard to say goodbye to a complex yet likable character inasmuch as saying farewell to Sandra Oh, who breathed life to the role.
ABC has long confirmed that Sandra Oh is leaving 'Grey's Anatomy,' the same time Oh publicly announced her planned exit last year. But now that the countdown to her exit is nearly coming to an end, many still find it hard to believe that one of the most familiar faces on the show, who has been part of the regular cast since the show started ten years ago, is now more than ready to move on with her life.
"I want this to be a celebration. I want us to get to that point where we see this character ride off into the sunset," Sandra Oh once told The Hollywood Reporter on her planned exit from 'Grey's Anatomy,' which is currently running its 10th season every Thursday night at 9/8c on the ABC TV network. "Playing Cristina and growing her and growing myself in her, I want to usher her into the next section of her life in the best way possible. It's got to be Cristina Yang's happily-ever-after."
Interestingly, ABC recently revealed that Sandra Oh wasn't originally casted on the show, but due to some fortunate events, she landed the role that everyone may have learned to love throughout the ten-year run of the show thus far. According to ABC 40, Oh intended to play the role of Bailey (now played by Chandra Wilson) but the character "didn't resonate with me," Oh dished, adding that it was only when she later found out that the character for the ambitious Christina Yang was still open that she found an opening to still join the series.
"I hadn't auditioned yet and I get a call from my manager," Oh says. "She said, 'You've got to go. Leave the audition. You need to leave.' As it happens in deals, a lot of times you have to sign a deal before you audition. It's very stressful and very, very difficult. They weren't able to close a deal, so they told me to leave," Oh went on explaining the details of the events that took place prior to her landing the role. "I don't know how many days later, they offered me the part. It was amazing... It was just one of those moments where you play chicken and you don't move or you do and you walk away."
Now, ten years later, Sandra Oh is all set to leave the show. The 42-year-old actress even took it to Twitter to share to her fans that she recently filmed her final scenes for the show's finale episode. She tweeted a photo of her co-actor Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen, and captioned it with: "Shooting one of our last scenes."
According to the Christian Post, several spoilers on the finale episode hint that Sandra Oh's Dr. Christina Yang is actually exiting the hospital to travel to Europe. On the other hand, there are also speculations that she will be killed off the show when a big explosion takes place as she prepares for her trip to Europe. Everything else is left vague until the finale for 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 10 finally airs.
Meanwhile, it seems Sandra Oh isn't the only leaving the show for good. Some spoilers tease that two other characters are going exit the show as well. Gaius Charles, who plays Shane, and Tessa Ferrer, who plays Leah, are also said to be leaving the show in the finale episode.
