Miguel Cotto scored a sensational victory over Sergio Martinez on Saturday night, fueling speculations that the Puerto Rican champion could get a second shot against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Cotto, who captured the WBC middleweight title with a 10th round knockout win over Martinez, lost to Mayweather in May 2012, but not before almost scoring a knockout win against his heavily-favored opponent.

Boxing analysts believe that Cotto has improved a lot under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, which makes him an intriguing opponent to Mayweather, but Roach is not thinking about a possible rematch seriously.

Roach said that Cotto deserves a shot against Mayweather, but he strongly believes that the reigning pound-for-pound king will not face the reigning middleweight champion.

The Hall of Fame trainer said that Mayweather will make excuses similar to what he has been doing when he is being asked about a long-proposed showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

"He'll come up with some excuse," Roach said.

But if Mayweather eventually decides to face Cotto, Roach is confident that his fighter will be too much for the unbeaten champion, saying that the Grand Rapids native has lost a step.

Roach said that Mayweather's legs are gone as proven by his performance against Marcos Maidana, who gave Mayweather arguably the toughest fight of his career last month.

"All you got to do with him [Mayweather] is just get in shape and just beat him to it all night," Roach said. "I think his legs are gone. He says he fights, he doesn't move anymore because he wants to please the fans. I think that's bullshit. I think he just can't. I think he's shot. I think he won't fight any of my guys."

Like Roach, Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum is also convinced that Cotto is now a better fighter since undergoing training with the famed trainer, and has what it takes to dominate Mayweather.

"If Cotto, with Freddie Roach, fought Mayweather again it would be no contest. Mayweather wouldn't have a [bleeping] chance," Arum said.

But when asked about co-promoting the proposed Mayweather-Cotto rematch, Arum said: "You got an AK? I'll hold it up to Floyd and say, 'Will you fight Cotto again?' Are you crazy? He's afraid to fight Manny. You think he'd fight Cotto?"
