Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will collide in the 2014 US Open Tennis final after winning against their respective opponents on Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Williams, a heavy favorite to win the tournament, scored a dominating victory against Ekaterina Makarova of Russia 6-1, 6-3 in their semis showdown to move closer to winning another Grand Slam title.

Williams, who is also eyeing her sixth US Open title, said that she did not expect to reach the final of this year's tournament, but the top-seeded American said that she started getting into her rhythm over her last several matches.

"I'm just really excited to be in the final. In the beginning of the week I definitely wasn't sure I would make it this long," Williams said. "Definitely wasn't sure I'd be here. So I'm just elated, to be honest, to have made it this far."

On the other hand, Caroline Wozniacki earned a ticket to the final after Peng Shuai of China was forced to retire in the second set of their match.

Peng failed to overcome the heat at Arthur Ashe Stadium as she suffered from severe cramping and was helped off the floor on a stretcher when she was down 4-3 in the second set.

"It was really hard to watch for me whenever I saw her collapse on the court," Wozniacki said of Peng. "You know, tennis is great, but the health is more important. You know, to see her struggling out there, I just wanted to make sure she was okay. I got the word that she's okay now and just getting cooled down, so that's great to hear."

Williams will be a heavy favorite heading into the final showdown with her good friend, but the 17-time Grand Slam champion, is expecting a tough match against Wozniacki, who will playing in her first Grand Slam final since 2009.

"I definitely expect another close match," Williams said. "She really knows my game well and knows how to play. She's so consistent. I think that's one of the things that makes her really tough. So I just have to be ready for that and, again, just stay calm and just be able to relax and be happy."
