Jessica Chambers murder - Investigators are questioning several people and have retrieved data from the cell phone of a 19-year-old resident of Panola County, MS, who was burned to death over the weekend.
Police found Jessica Chambers on Saturday covered in flames by her car, which was also burning at Herron Road near Courtland. District Attorney John Champion says some form of flammable liquid appears to have been used to start the fire.
Jessica Chambers' murder has left the small town community shaken. "I've been doing this 21 years now. And as far as the manner of death, this is certainly one of the worst I've ever dealt with," Champion noted.
"They squirted lighter fluid down her throat and in her nose, and apparently they knocked her out," Ben Chambers, the father of the deceased, who works at the local Sheriff's office, told the press. He also revealed that when fire service personnel arrived at the scene his daughter was walking down the street ablaze. She reportedly told the authorities the name of her attacker and had been flown to a Memphis hospital before she died.
Chambers say autopsy results shows that the only part of Jessica Chambers body that wasn't burnt was the bottom of her feet. He also revealed that she had a "big gash" on her head.
It is unclear what may have led to Jessica Chambers' murder. Close sources say she was not in a relationship. Lisa Chambers, her mother, says the teenager had gone to have her car washed and was also going to pick something to eat.
"[She] said 'Bye, I love you, Mama. See you in a little while.' Next time I seen her, she was in the Med," Lisa said. "God's punishment is going to be far more worse than anything that we can do."
Jessica Chambers murder investigation is being followed closely. Surveillance footage obtained by the press shows Jessica about 90 minutes before she was murdered at a gas station. It appears that she saw someone she knows as she waves and walks away from the view of the camera. Shortly afterwards, a man is seen filling a gas can. Local police are yet to identify the man or disclose if he has been questioned about Jessica Chambers' murder.
Reports indicate that both state and county officials are involved in Jessica Chamber's murder investigation. Chambers said he is confident his daughter's killer will be found. "I've got faith in them, we've got one of the most wonderful sheriffs in the world," he said.
