Crowd gets crazy for Nike's Air Jordan 11 Retro 'Legend Blue' release in shopping malls, Toledo Blade reported.
Two hundred people gathered before 4 AM on Wednesday at Franklin Mall Park to buy Nike's latest Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue. At 5:30 AM, Police officers came in to control the growing number of people.
Fifteen minutes before the shoe tickets were released at 6 AM, people started pushing each other. The shoppers were anxious and overran the barricades and police tape.
According to a Toledo police incident report, the officers were "knocked to the ground and enveloped by the crowd." The law enforcers had to use pepper spray and pepper balls to manage the panicked Air Jordan buyers.
Some officers and shoppers gained scratches and bruises but no serious injuries were reported. The police are still investigating the incident to check if a shopper started the chaos.
Similar incidents during ticket sales for the Air Jordan have occurred such as the fight at Cross Creek mall and Gastonia mall, according to FOX 8.
Buyers can only get the Air Jordan shoes on Saturday but the tickets for reservation have been released. Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue was first made for NBA star player Michael Jordan in 1996. Jordan wore the highly coveted shoes in its Columbia design during the 1996 NBA All-Star game, according to Kicks On Fire.
Air Jordan is making the waves again since the basketball player has designed and produced new versions under Nike. The Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue is the latest addition, which made "sneakerheads" overly excited.
The shoes have an all-white smooth leather design with a Jumpman icon at the back part. The outsole and tongue tag's color is icy blue, which gives it a classic feel. Shoppers can buy the Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue at $200 on Dec. 20, 2014.
If a buyer wants to indulge more, Nike has prepared the Air Jordan Ultimate Gift of Flight Pack. The set includes two unreleased versions of the Air Jordan 11. The shoes played with the icy blue and white combination, according to Boom Box.
The first pair has an all-blue leather cover while the second one is a mixture of white, blue and silver. The Ultimate Pack will be available on Dec. 23 for the price of $500.
Meanwhile, if shoppers want to purchase the Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue at the comfort of their own homes, Amazon sells Nike's latest product for $450-600.
