Mia Khalifa is currently on the center of an intense outrage after sparking a major national controversy for being the number one porn star on an adult Web site, Porn Hub. Because of her accolade, the 21-year-old Lebanese-American performer is facing death threats and backlashes on social media.

It seems that no Hollywood celebrity can break the Internet, instead it was a porn star! Mia Khalifa's ranking as being the top adult performer on a porn site have drawn widespread criticisms internationally. According to CNN, Khalifa's nature of work has not only frustrated her parents but also created a major controversy in her native country.

Several have gone to social media to express their thoughts on Mia Khalifa as she became the sex industry's top actress. The Independent reported she was even branded as a "disgrace" to the country and a stigma to the Middle East nations. Even her own family has released an official statement stating their disappointment over their daughter's job.

"We are probably paying the price of living away from our homeland; our kids had to adapt to societies that don't resemble our culture, traditions and values," the statement said. "Hence, we emphasize that we disassociate ourselves from her actions which do not reflect her family beliefs, her upbringing or her true Lebanese roots. We hope that she comes back to her senses as her image does not honor her family or her homeland -- Lebanon."

Before becoming involved in the adult film industry, The Daily Mail reported that Mia Khalifa was born and raised in Lebanon before her family moved to America in 2000. And now, Khalifa is the most sought-after adult actress on Porn Hub. However, social media went ballistic over her recognition.

"Mia Khalifa is neat and all but wearing hijabs in her porn vids is really problematic and gross," a user wrote. And another user said, "B**** wonders why Arabs bash on her. Maybe because you f****** degraded Muslims in a porno."

Aside from being a top porn star, she is also highly-criticized for her tattoo that was written in Arabic, which was the opening lines of the Lebanese National Anthem.

Meanwhile, Mia Khalifa has responded to the offensive social media posts on Twitter.

"Doesn't the Middle East have more important things to worry about besides me? How about finding a president? Or containing ISIS?" she wrote.

While others condemned Mia Khalifa, Newsweek reported that a British-Lebanese author named Nasi Atallah came to her defense.

"The moral indignation about Mia Khalifa, presumably the first Lebanese porn star, is wrong for two reasons," he wrote on Facebook. "First and foremost, as a woman, she is free to do as she pleases with her body. Secondly, as a sentient human being with agency, who lives halfway across the world, she is in charge of her own life and owes absolutely nothing to the country where she happened to be born. There is this odd perception that being Lebanese is a vocation and a duty first and that your personal life comes second."

Though Mia Khalifa generated a major outburst online, she is educated, has a well-paid job and is successful in her occupation. And for her reasons of becoming a porn star, who are we to judge?
