We all knew that there is a new "Mortal Kombat" movie is brewing for a few years already. However the project remained stagnant to the point that the movie is non-existent. Now, there a reports that the video game turned to film is taking a huge step forward.

Commercials director Simon McQuoid has been assigned to direct the live-action movie adaptation, of the 1992 hit video game "Mortal Kombat" which will be produced by James Wan for New Line.

McQuoid is an Australian filmmaker and one of the most in-demand commercials directors in the field. He had high-profile award winning campaigns under his belt which includes commercials for PlayStation, Halo, Range Rover, Beats by Dre, and other top brands.

There are reports that McQuoid is under negotiations for the upcoming "Mortal Kombat" movie. The script draft was written mostly by Greg Russo and producing together with Wan are Michael Clear of Atomic Monster, Todd Garner and Jeremy Stein of Broken Road with Lawrence Kasanoff serving as the executive producer.

The "Mortal Kombat" franchise started off as a video game in 1992. A live-action movie adaptation was produced with Paul W.S. Anderson as director in 1995. Though the film wasn't as good as expected, the brand name is widespread enough to drag it into a $122 million hit. Other films followed but to no success, none of the movies stand out.

In 2015, Wan announced that they are going to produce the third Mortal Kombat movie after the success of the recent web series "Mortal Kombat: Legacy". As of now the project is moving forward, slowly but surely.

Fans are expecting that the trademark gore and violence of the film must be attained in the movie. Even though the film will be rated R, I'm sure that enthusiast will support the film. "Mortal Kombat" is supposedly a dark, terrifying saga bursting with violence and all-out warfare and if you want to do justice to the series, "Mortal Kombat" should have the room to rip some back bones and shed some blood. FATALITY!
