A Towson University student got raped by two men just outside an apartment building across the school campus, Police said Friday.
The victim of the alleged rape incident told Baltimore County police that two men belligerently grabbed her around 1 a.m. and raped her outside the University Village.
"We're offering all of the resources at Towson to support the victim and her family as she begins to recover from this horrible event," Towson University spokesperson Gay Pinder told Baltimore Sun.
The County Police Spokesperson Cpl. Cathy Batton explained that the Towson University student called them at around 2:18 a.m., and said that she got raped near the Campus View Drive between 12:53 a.m. and 1:20 a.m.
However, the Towson University student victim was not able to fully describe the suspects due to her traumatized state, yet Batton said that the police are still doing the investigation and called for people who knew about the incident or the rapists to come forward.
Nearby residents claimed that the University Village is a safe place to live in with its impeccable crime-free record.
"I was shocked when I heard about it," said Junior Malik Partman of Upper Marlboro, who has also lived at the University Village before. "It's unfortunate, but at the same time, I do feel secure here."
Meanwhile Sophomore Mackenzie Cockerill, who has stayed in the Village since her freshman year, said she had received a text alert about the incident.
"I get messages all the time about things like this," Cockerill said. "It's more like assaults a couple miles from campus, but I've never gotten one from here."
This is the second controversial incident involving Baltimore-area Towson University students before the fall semester commences, the first one being the Towson University cheerleading squad hazing controversy, which sparked interests since the squad has been suspended from practice and from joining competitions for the time being.
