Derrick Rose has only played in 10 games over the last two NBA seasons, but Chicago Bulls fans might see their superstar play again this summer.
Chicago Tribune reported K.C. Johnson revealed that Rose, who sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee in November last year, is fit to return to action.
Johnson said that if the season starts tomorrow, the former Most Valuable Player will be able to play for the Bulls, adding that Rose has been participating in full-contact drills since Chicago's playoff series against the Washington Wizards.
"Rose began taking full contact in the form of one-on-one or two-on-two or three-on-three offday sessions late in the first-round series against the Wizards. Rose has had no setbacks and, if the season started tomorrow, would be fine to play," Johnson wrote.
With his current status, Rose, who averaged 15.9 points to go along with 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, is on pace to participate in the upcoming USA Basketball training camp on July 28 as part of their preparation for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
"He remains on schedule to participate in the Team USA minicamp in Las Vegas at the end of July and hopes to make the World Cup team that will compete in Spain in late August through early September," Johnson wrote.
USA national team coach Mike Krzyzewski is also expecting Rose to be ready for the mini camp in Las Vegas wherein the players, who will represent the country in the upcoming World Cup will be selected.
"We feel that Derrick is going to be ready to go," Krzyzewski said. "But we'll see that week. Hopefully, he is. He was my starting guard (for the) world championship team in Istanbul, Turkey in 2010."
Rose benefited from his previous national team stint, winning the NBA Most Valuable Player award the season after the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championships, and Krzyzewski is hoping that Rose's possible stint with USA Team will help him get his confidence back.
"I love Derrick; he's a special guy," Krzyzewski said. "I feel bad that these last couple years have interrupted what should be a sensational career for him. Hopefully, this will be a jump start to the NBA season and maybe we can win the World Cup along the way."
