Miguel Cotto said that there are no ongoing talks about his future fight, but the reigning WBC middleweight champion revealed that they are considering facing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in December.
Cotto, who captured the middleweight title with a dominating victory against Sergio Martinez in June, said that he and his camp are still enjoying their win against the former Argentine champion - the reason why they are not yet thinking about their next fight.
"I'm enjoying the last victory and most of all waiting to see what happens in my career. At the moment I have not thought about anything. I'll let the tide take its course and see what it brings," Cotto said via BoxingScene.
The 33-year-old Puerto Rican quickly added, though, that Alvarez and Chavez Jr. are among the fighters that they are strongly considering for the December fight.
"There are many names on the list, obviously Canelo and Chavez stick out, but we are waiting," Cotto said. "This is a business, my business and I will ensure the best opportunity for Miguel Cotto. But it is a fact, the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry can be rekindled."
Cotto could have been Canelo's opponent earlier this year, but previous negotiation for the fight went down with reports indicating that Cotto turned down a $10 million guaranteed fight purse.
Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya recently said after Canelo's win against Erislandy Lara that Cotto will be considered again for Alvarez's next fight.
On the other hand, Chavez Jr. is also an intriguing option since the Mexican has won two-straight fights against Brandon Vera after taking his first loss in September 2012 against Martinez.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. said in an interview that they are open to facing Cotto. The elder Chavez also played down concern about a possible conflict on catch weight, saying that his son could go down to 160 pounds to face Cotto.
"I particularly like the fight [with Cotto] and my son loves the fight," Chavez Sr. said. "Cotto loves to fight and we'll see how things progress. Julio has many options, but he is willing. Julio has changed with the arrival of my granddaughter Julia. He is training every day. It would take a lot more work to make 160 pounds but he would do it."
