Former welterweight champion Andre Berto believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be more prepared in his upcoming rematch against Marcos Maidana on September 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Berto said in an interview with BoxingScene that Mayweather, who scored a majority decision victory in his first fight against Maidana, said that the reigning pound-for-pound king will be sharper in the upcoming rematch.
Berto also added that Maidana will step into the ring with a similar mentality, but things would be a bit different on the Sep. 13 fight because Mayweather will be more focused as he is aiming to prove that he is way better than his challenger.
"I think Mayweather is going to come in there with a lot more focus, with a lot more to prove. He is going to be sharp. I think Maidana is going to be the same old Maidana. He's going to go in there as try to chop him down," Berto said.
Meanwhile, Mayweather threw another verbal jab on Wednesday accusing Maidana's camp of using dirty tactics in their previous fight.
The reigning pound-for-pound king, who is still undefeated in 46 professional fights, recognized Robert Garcia as one of the best trainers in the world, but he added that it is unethical to advice a fighter to cheat in order to have a better chance of winning.
"Robert Garcia is one of best trainers in the world, but you don't give your fighter advice to go out and cheat to win or let us fight with our gloves with no padding in the gloves. Conduct yourself like a gentleman at the end of the day," Mayweather said.
The reigning WBC and WBA welterweight champion insisted that if Maidana wants to win, the 31-year-old Argentine has to earn it the hard way - not through cheating.
"Even though we're in a brutal sport, if you beat me earn it the hard way," Mayweather said. "I got to the top with hard work, dedication, prayers and belief, and a good team. If you're going to beat me, earn it the hard way - don't cheat to win. Even with the Ortiz fight. Everyone is always trying to cheat to beat me. If you're going to beat me - earn it. That's all I got to say."
